CAS’s Ad Hoc Division registered Vinesh Phogat’s appeal to be awarded the silver medal in the Women’s Wrestling 50kg competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The moment of truth shall arrive shortly, as Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat fights to reclaim her hard-earned medal finish at the Paris Olympics, and has made her case to the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport)

As per reports, Vinesh initially wanted her gold medal bout to be reinstated which was rejected by CAS. Now she wants to be awarded a joint-silver medal since she had passed the weigh-in for her bouts on Tuesday when she won three matches to enter the final that guaranteed her a medal.

CAS’s Ad Hoc Division registered Vinesh Phogat’s appeal to be awarded the silver medal in the Women’s Wrestling 50kg competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“An application was filed at the CAS Ad hoc Division at 16:45 CEST on 7 August 2024 by Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat in relation to the decision taken by United World Wrestling (UWW) to replace her, because of her failed second weigh-in, before the gold medal match of the Women’s Freestyle 50kg competition at the Olympic Games Paris 2024,” CAS said in a statement on Friday.

Latest reports have also stated that Phogat’s reresentatives have risen their arguments to the Court, making their case to serve justice to the Indian wreslter.

According to reports from India Today, multiple arguments were raised as a part of Vinesh’s appeal.

The initial fundamental argument that was raised was that Phogat has not committed any fraud or foul play.  The next argument made ws concerning the weight gain, that got Vinesh disqualified. Vinesh’s representatives had stated that the weight gain was merely a natural bodily process, that took place as a part of recovery after her bouts, and that it is her fundamental right to care for her physical well-being.

Another major point of contention that has been raised also has to do with how Phogat had successfully maintained her weight within the prescribed limit on the first day of her competition.

No news has arisen yet about the official decision made in the case of Phogat, but the nation has come to a standstill as all wait with bated breath to witness whether the Indian shall be able to attain Olympic glory or not.
