Shaan said that modern singers don’t ‘care’ too much about their music and audience likes the rawness.
Shaan is one of the most popular singers in Bollywood and has been the song voice of top actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan among others. However, as a senior in his field today, Shaan feels that modern singers do not have the same nuance as his colleagues. As Shaan took a dig at modern singers, netizens wondered if he was talking about Prateek Kuhad and Anuv Jain.
In a conversation with Sapan Verma on his show, Shaan said, “Nowadays, people prefer these simple, personal kind of… minimalistic kind of songs. Even the singer is like (mimicks singer) tone sabki aisi hai na. Agar voh kuch zyada interest dikha diya toh shayad logo ka interest kam ho jayega. ‘Main toh aisi ga raha tha, tujhe pasand aaya toh aaya.’”
“Then I check views, arre baap re, some two billion views for that. But times have changed. I think what people like is the rawness and authenticity. I’m talking about the time when we used to go to a music company and I’d sing and then say, ‘Haan lekin voh khanak nahi hai, voh baat nahi hai. Thoda aur training le ke aao.’ Wahan main jaake aise (mimicks modern singers) karta toh bolte kya pi ke aaya hai.”
A video of this interaction has gone viral on Reddit, with users flocking to the comments section to guess whom Shaan is talking about. One person wrote, “No Prateek Kuhaad/Anuv Jain was harmed here.” Another added, “Anuv Jain’s work was the first thing that came to mind!”
