Teenage Indian wrestler Antim Panghal will feature in the Olympics this year for the first time. Hailing from Bhagana village in Hisar district, Haryana, Panghal (53kg) earned India’s first quota from the 2023 World Wrestling Championships. As per an official release, the 19-year-old scripted history by becoming India’s first-ever U-20 world wrestling champion and successfully retaining the title next year. Last year, Panghal bagged a silver medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships. She also became the youngest ever Indian to win a medal at the Senior World Wrestling championships, the official release further added. Starting her wrestling career as a teenager, Panghal has been competing in the 53 KG category.

Paris Olympics Qualification
Antim Panghal (53kg) earned India’s first quota from the 2023 World Wrestling Championships. As per a report by ANI, she got the better of Sweden’s two-time European champion Jonna Malmgren to win the bronze medal in the women’s 53kg event at the World Wrestling Championships, held in Belgrade, Serbia last year.
“We get more training done on the mat. We used to get training done before, but now the Olympics is a big game. I qualified for the event for the first time. I was a little bit tired because I had an injury. But after that, I did my proper training and focused on everything, whether it was mat work, basketball training or ground training. Coach has also given me support to do all this. When I went to play in the ranking series, I won a silver medal, So, I thought that if I fought well in the Olympics, I would win a silver medal.” Antim Panghal was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Recent Performances
In one of her latest appearances, Antim Panghal bagged silver medals at the Polyak Imre and Varga Janos Memorial wrestling tournament held earlier this year in June in Budapest, Hungary. As per Olympics.com, it was her first competition since clinching a bronze medal at the Asian Games in 2023.
