Alongside Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, Disney has confirmed the return of Chad Michael Murray in the role of Jake for Freaky Friday 2.

The much-anticipated sequel to Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis’ 2003 Disney film, Freaky Friday, is finally happening. Months after Disney formally announced Freaky Friday 2 in the works, Chad Michael Murray has been confirmed to be returning as the grown-up Jake. On Thursday, Disney Studios, through an official post, shared that the 42-year-old will reprise his role in the upcoming sequel. The post shows the actor on the film’s set with Jake’s motorcycle in the background.

“Jake is back, baby. The sequel to Freaky Friday is coming to theaters 2025,” the post read.

In a quick reaction, Curtis re-shared the post on her Instagram story and wrote, “Oh, Jake… @chadmichaelmurray we have MISSED YOU!” To this, Murray added, “Don’t tease me Tess.”

Although the first part came out more than a decade ago, Murray looks as goofy and cool as ever, seated on the iconic motorcycle in a black t-shirt and jeans. Notably, Jake’s Ducati Monster 600 motorcycle remained a significant part of his character in Freaky Friday. Fans might remember the memorable scene when Anna (Lindsay Lohan) swapped into the body of her mother, Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) while riding on the back of the motorcycle.

While details about his character’s future in the sequel are still uncertain, it is likely that he may no longer be with Anna. The sequel has been confirmed to feature Anna’s daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter.

More On The Freaky Friday Sequel

Earlier in June, Disney shared a picture from the film’s sets, featuring the leading ladies. “The Colemans are back and coming to theaters in 2025! The sequel to Freaky Friday is now in production!” the post read.

In a press release, the company revealed that the film will pick up years after Tess and Anna endure an identity crisis. Anna will now have a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. “As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice,” it added.

While lead actors Lohan, Curtis, and Murray are returning, others, including Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao, will also reprise their roles. Freaky Friday 2 will hit theatres in 2025.
