The BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah had visited the NFL Headquarters during his visit to New York for the T20 World Cup 2024.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s secretary, Jay Shah visited the National Football League (NFL) Headquarters in New York. According to the Indian Cricket Board, the move was made with the motive of ‘fostering international sporting collaborations’. The BCCI Secretary is currently in the United States of America for the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 where India is playing their group-stage games at the Big Apple.

“In a significant move towards fostering international sporting collaborations, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah visited the National Football League (NFL) headquarters in New York,” the Board’s statement read.

Interestingly, the brainchild of the BCCI, the Indian Premier League has also become the world’s second-richest sports league in terms of per-match value, behind the USA’s National Football League.

In Shah’s visit, the BCCI held ‘productive discussions’ with the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and his team, focusing on sharing their best practices, exchanging innovative ideas, and enhancing fan engagement and experiences.

As a token of appreciation, Shah presented a customised helmet with the BCCI logo and a Team India jersey to the Commissioner. In return, Shah also received a trademark NFL ball in return.

According to the BCCI, the exchange underscores the deepening relationship and shared vision between cricket and American Football, two of the world’s most popular sports.

“This historic interaction between the BCCI and the NFL paves the way for innovative ideas and opportunities, marking a significant milestone in the cross-cultural sporting dialogue between India and the United States,” the BCCI said in conclusion.

The Indian team have made a stellar start to their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign having won both their games in the group stage against Ireland and rivals Pakistan respectively. With a spot in the Super-8s looking likely, the Indian team will be aiming to go for the title and end their long-standing title drought.

The Men in Blue will play their third game of the tournament against the co-hosts United States of America on Wednesday at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
