Amul hikes milk prices by Rs 2 from July 1 – Times of India

Mumbai: India’s Leading Dairy Amul has raised milk prices From July 1 at the rate of Rs 2 per liter. Looking at the previous precedent, other brands are likely to soon follow the market leader.
Though the company’s move was compelled by the high cost of living, it adds to the burden of the average family whose income has shrunk amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
RS Sodhi, managing director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the owner of the brand, said that the price of Amul Gold in Mumbai will be Rs 58 per liter, while the price of Taza has been revised to Rs 48.
A press release issued by the company on Wednesday said, “An increase of Rs 2 per liter translates into a 4% increase in MRP which is much lower than the average food inflation. The price revision is being done across India, In the rest of the markets where Amul is marketing its fresh milk.”
The GCMMF cited higher cost of living as the main reason for the hike in prices. “It is pertinent to note that Amul has not done any price revision in its fresh milk category in the last 1.5 years. Since then due to increase in cost of energy, packaging, logistics, overall
The cost of operation has gone up. Keeping in view the increase in input cost, our member unions have also increased the price of farmers from Rs 45 to Rs 50 per kg of fat which is more than 6% as compared to last year.
The company claims that under a policy, it gives about 80 paise to milk producers out of every rupee that consumers pay for milk and milk products. Price revision will help in maintaining remunerative milk prices for our milk producers and incentivize them for higher milk production.
