Kargil Vijay Diwas 2023: A team of mountaineers from the Army’s Dagger Division has achieved a historic feat by scaling the 7,077-metre-high Mount Kun in a record seven days to mark the Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations.
A defense spokesperson said here, “The journey began on July 8 when Major General Rajesh Sethi, GOC of 19 Infantry Division, flagged off the team from Baramulla. Setting off from the base camp on July 11, the intrepid mountaineers led by Col Rajneesh Joshi achieved their long-awaited victory by climbing Mount Kun at 11:40 am on July 18.”
He said, to give an extraordinary touch to their achievement, the climbers also performed yoga at an altitude of 7,077 metres, making it the highest place where yoga has ever been practiced.
“This remarkable achievement not only reflects the unwavering dedication and exceptional skill of the Indian Army Mountaineering Team, but also highlights the deep connection between physical well-being and spiritual practices,” the spokesperson said.
With the successful ascent of Mt Kun, the focus now shifts to the upcoming expedition to Mt Nun to climb the awe-inspiring height of 7,135 metres. This same team will now march towards Mount Noon carrying the hopes and aspirations of the nation, said the spokesperson.
