India create World record in Test Cricket history as Rohit Sharma’s men star in second Test

Rohit SharmaThe Indian cricket team has broken a major world record of scoring the fastest 100 runs in the 146-year history of Test cricket. India face West Indies in the second Test of the two-match series at Port of Spain, Trinidad. After shocking the Windies batting on the fourth day, The Men in Blue made a brilliant start to their second innings.

Indian openers – Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal got the visitors off to a fine start as they looked for a result in the second game. The duo took India past their century in just 12.2 overs and took the fewest number of balls to score their first 100 in Tests. The Men in Blue took just 74 balls to reach the three-figure mark and broke Sri Lanka’s 21-year-old record of 80 balls. Sri Lanka scored a hundred in 2001 against Bangladesh in 13.2 overs (80 balls).

Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal make merry

In the first session, Indian openers scored runs at a fast pace. Both Rohit and Jaiswal attacked the opposition team. Sharma scored 98 in the first session on the fourth day after Windies were all out in the first hour of the long opening session. The Indian captain made a half-century but was dismissed for 57 off 44 balls due to weather interruption. His partner Jaiswal remained unbeaten after scoring 37 runs in 28 balls. The rain gates opened and the Men in Blue were back at 98/1 at an early lunch. Jaiswal was dismissed for 38 at the start of the second session. The weather gates reopened mid-season and only a few overs were bowled in the second session. The visitors were 118/2 at tea.
