Google is hoping to fix the issue and improve the performance of the app with the upcoming Android 14 version.

Android phones will soon go easy on background apps and not kill them all. Google and Samsung are making it their mission to stop this problem once again and the changes will appear soon with the One UI 6.0 update which will be based on Android 14.

The main focus of this deep partnership is to stop background apps from crashing, which can provide a poor experience with apps for all users and developers as well.

Android is open source in nature which allows OEMs to customize the software and add their own versions, which is what the likes of Samsung have done. But these changes have also resulted in performance issues, and killing background apps has definitely been annoying for users. Google claims that it is bringing new implementation for background apps within the API and Samsung’s Galaxy phones will be the first ones to get the changed behavior towards background apps.

Interestingly, Google has set guidelines for background processes, but most of you will agree that we have hardly seen it implemented so far.

With the API-level changes we’ll see in Android 14, we’re hoping that problems with background apps closing will be a thing of the past.

Developers will also be making changes to their apps for Android 14 with dedicated guidelines that Google will provide them to implement the changes. Once background apps are active, you’ll see improved performance from apps that will continue to deliver messages and other information to the device.

The Google I/O 2023 keynote is likely to be the first time we get to know more about these changes with Android and how soon other brands can expect to roll them out to their consumers. The new Android version is already available in beta for Pixel users, and at the keynote other brands will also share their beta rollout plans.
