New DelhiA 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands, north of New Zealand, on Thursday morning, according to a USGS statement. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km. According to a separate statement from the agency, tsunami waves can rise within a radius of 300 km from the epicenter. The Australian Meteorological Department confirmed in a tweet that there was no tsunami threat.
