2021 T20 shifted out of India
According to news agency PTI, in a major development, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly on Monday confirmed that the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which was originally scheduled to be held in India, will now be shifted to the UAE. “We have officially informed the ICC that the T20 World Cup may be shifted to UAE. The details are being worked out,” Ganguly said. “The decision was taken keeping in mind the health safety concerns of all the stakeholders.”
Ganguly also confirmed that the qualifiers will be played in Oman. “We are still finalizing the dates. But it has been decided that the qualifiers will be in Oman while the main group matches will be played in the United Arab Emirates.
The mega-event is scheduled to be held in October-November, but BCCI will remain as the host. There was speculation on the fate of the marquee event in view of the rising cases of coronavirus in India. The BCCI had sought more time from the International Cricket Council (ICC) before taking a decision on the venue.
The ICC then gave BCCI four weeks to decide whether it can host the event in India or not.
