Five people were shot dead and at least three others wounded in a terrorist attack at a synagogue in Jerusalem’s Neve Yaakov neighborhood, police and medics said Friday night.
According to police, the terrorists arrived by car and opened fire on a building used as a synagogue in a neighborhood in the northern part of East Jerusalem.
Police said officers searched the scene and shot the gunman. The pistol used in the attack has been seized.
The Magen David Adom ambulance service said its medics pronounced five people dead at the scene.
The other three victims – a woman in her 70s listed in critical condition, a 20-year-old man in critical condition, and a 14-year-old boy in moderate-severe condition – were taken to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital.
Police said dozens of officers were dispatched to the scene.
Police said Jerusalem district police commander Doron Turgman was also at the scene and was taking stock of the situation with officers.
Hebrew-language media reports said police were looking for additional suspects who may have helped the gunman.
