Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will today launch Jammu and Kashmir’s New Film Policy, which will focus on harnessing local talent and creating employment opportunities for the youth. Many Bollywood including celebrities Aamir Khan And Rajkumar Hirani is expected to join Sinha for the launch of the policy in Srinagar. Interestingly, Aamir has been shooting for the schedule of his upcoming Hindi film Laal Singh Chaddha in Srinagar for the past few days. He had earlier shot a major portion of the film with his team in Ladakh.

Earlier, filmmakers like Ekta Kapoor, Imtiaz Ali and Nitesh Tiwari met Sinha to discuss how to promote Jammu and Kashmir as a popular filming destination. A few days back, Aamir met Sinha with his ex-wife, producer Kiran Rao, to talk about “reviving the pride of Jammu and Kashmir in Bollywood”.

The new policy will offer filmmakers a single-window clearance system and two dedicated nodal officers for smooth shooting. Under the new policy, the Jammu and Kashmir Film Development Council will also be formed. Films produced by award-winning producers and directors will be subsidized; Shooting of movies, TV shows, web series, original shows from streaming platforms; at the residence. Special subsidy will be given for international award winning regional films.

The policy will also assist filmmakers to scout for locations, local talent and facilities, besides obtaining necessary clearances. For this, a complete database of local talent available for hosting is created on the website to enable filmmakers interested in shooting their films in UT to make use of their services.

Earlier, Sinha expressed confidence that the Union Territory would have the best film policy in the country and assured that all stakeholders would be involved while finalizing it. “The JK film policy will be the best in the country and all stakeholders will be involved while finalizing it,” Sinha said. LG also emphasized on streamlining the Single Window Clearance and Facilitation System and bringing in renowned filmmakers from across the country. And for exploring the unexplored sightseeing places of Jammu and Kashmir abroad.
