Kerala government re-allocated Cherian’s portfolios to three ministers

According to government sources, Cherian made a recommendation in this regard to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, who approved the government’s decision.

The Kerala government has reassigned portfolios to CPI(M) MLA Saji Cherian, who resigned from the Pinarayi Vijayan cabinet, along with three other ministers, over his controversial remarks against the Constitution. Cooperation and Registration Minister VN Vasavan will handle the Department of Cultural Affairs, PWD and Tourism Minister PA Mohammad Rias, who is also the Chief Minister’s son-in-law, has been allotted the Department of Youth Affairs. Play and Waqf Minister V Abdurhiman obtained the University of Fisheries, Harbor Engineering and Fisheries.

In addition to his existing portfolios, Vasavan was also given additional responsibilities of Kerala State Film Development Corporation, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and Kerala State Cultural Workers Welfare Fund Board, which were organized by Cherian.

According to government sources, the Chief Minister made a recommendation in this regard to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, who approved the government’s decision. According to a gazette notification issued on Friday, Khan reassigned and allocated the government’s work among the three ministers in addition to his existing portfolios.

CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Friday clarified that the party’s state secretariat did not discuss the inclusion of a new minister in place of Cherian and a decision in this regard was to be taken by the chief minister. Saji Cherian had announced his resignation on Wednesday amid mounting criticism from various quarters, including the opposition, over his controversial remarks against the Constitution.
