#Kolkata: Workers protesting in the municipality demanding a minimum monthly salary of Rs 18,000, state government employees like health insurance and timely pension gratuity. The protest of KMC Workers Union took place at Kolkata Municipality Headquarters.
The KMC Workers Union started the program of deputation to the Mayor in the interest of the employees of Kolkata Municipality. Mayor Firhad Hakim is out of town. A four-member delegation of Left Workers and Employees Union met Deputy Mayor Atin Ghosh and handed over the deputation. On this day, a sit-in demonstration was held at the head office of the Calcutta Municipality demanding a 6-point demand. The members of the KMC Workers Union under CITU raised slogans inside the municipality. On this day, they staged a sit-in protest for their demands till 2 pm.

One of the six-point demands of the KMC Workers Union was to introduce health insurance for state government employees such as workers of the Calcutta Municipality and bring them under the health scheme. KMC workers union general secretary Anutosh Sarkar said that the workers are being denied various benefits. But those facilities are being given to the employees of the state government. Those who have boards in the Calcutta Municipality have their government in the state. However, he complained that the city employees were being discriminated against. Ratan Bhattacharya, president of the Left Trade Union, was also included in the delegation. They have a complaint, will do it, only the officials of the Municipal Corporation are giving assurance.
But they are showing apathy in solving the problem. Ratan Babu said, ‘We have met Mayor Firhad Hakim and demanded that steps should be taken to resolve the matter through talks. I have come many times before. He warned that if workers are denied their fair share for a long period of time. If any untoward situation arises in future, the responsibility of the same will be borne by the Calcutta Municipal Authority.
