Lucknow: Sugarcane Farming in Uttar Pradesh touches a new high with average cane Production reached 815 quintals per hectare in 2020-21. The average sugarcane production in the last financial year was 811 quintals per hectare.

In fact, nine of the top 10 districts are from the agriculturally prosperous western UP. There are 45 sugarcane growing areas in the state.
Additional Chief Secretary (sugarcane development) Sanjay Bhoosreddy Said that the high sugarcane production was a result of the practice of cutting the crop which was used in the sugarcane cultivation season of 2020-21. He said that due to timely payment of sugarcane price and linking farmers with new cropping techniques, there has been an increase in sugarcane production.
Higher cane production is directly linked to payment of cane price which is mandated by mills to farmers in the private sector. Farmer groups, in fact, are claiming that sugarcane payment arrears of around Rs 12,000 crore for the 2020-21 season are due.
Officials of the sugarcane department, however, said that the department was committed to make payment of cane prices on time. The state government is highlighting how it paid more than 1.4 lakh crore to sugarcane growers in the last four years.
