Ahmedabad : Gujarat A man wanted in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a Kolkata jeweler has been arrested by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) from the neighboring country. Maharashtraan official said on Wednesday.
An ATS team apprehended the accused Vishal Sharma from Shirdi in neighboring Maharashtra state and brought him to Ahmedabad for questioning, he said.
Sharma, a native of Delhi, was on the lookout Police In Kolkata and Odisha, the latter announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for information on his whereabouts, the ATS said in a statement.
On 14 February, jeweler Shantilal Vaid (66) was strangled to death at a guest house in Bhawanipur area of Kolkata. Vaid was kidnapped and his family was asked to pay a ransom of Rs 1 crore, of which they paid Rs 25 lakh.
Kolkata Police started investigation on the basis of CCTV footage and evidence found at the spot. Later, the police of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar in Odisha also joined the investigation, the release said.
Gujarat ATS Information was received that the accused is hiding in a hotel in Raipur Darwaza area of Ahmedabad and after investigation it was found that he is hiding in Shirdi by changing his identity.
