Air India aircraft technicians threaten stir – Times of India

Mumbai: Air India Aircraft maintenance technicians, employees who are on fixed-term contracts with the national carrier, have threatened to go on strike on January 17 pending employment contract renewal, wage revision and similar issues.
The tasks handled by an aircraft maintenance technician include refueling and preparing aircraft for departure, marshalling, maintenance jobs, etc.
“Most of us earn a minimum wage of Rs 25,000 and yet the airline has included our salary for deduction as part of economic measures. Since May 2020, an amount of Rs 1100 is being deducted from our salary. We have reimbursed has demanded,” said a technician requesting anonymity.
He said around 1,700 of them across India would opt for a “tool down” movement a week from now.
A letter has been sent to the CEO regarding their demands on Monday. Air India Engineering Services Limited (AIESL), the airline’s engineering subsidiary.
An Air India source said the said technicians comprise about 50% of AIESL employees.
“Many of us have completed five years with Air India and our contracts will come up for renewal. The airline management is silent on our long pending queries,” the technician said.
