Speaking to reporters after defeating Matteo Berrettini in the grass court Grand Slam, Djokovic said the weight of strict COVID-19 restrictions along with the lack of spectators depend on whether he will attend Tokyo.
“I’ve always planned on going to the Olympic Games, but right now I’m a little divided,” Djokovic said. “It’s like 50-50 because of what I’ve heard over the past few days.”
“I’ve also heard that there’s going to be a lot of restrictions within [Athletes’] Village. You probably haven’t seen other athletes performing live.
“I can’t even have my stringer which is a very important part of my team. I am also limited by the number of people I can have on my team. ,
Having already won the Australian Open and French Open this year, Djokovic needs an Olympic gold medal and a US Open title to become the first man to win a Golden Slam.
The Olympics are scheduled to begin on 23 July.
