Actor Armaan Kohli denied bail in drugs case by special NDPS court

A special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court has refused bail to actor Armaan Kohli, who was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in a drugs case. The NCB had allegedly seized 1.3 grams of cocaine from the actor and he was arrested after a raid at his residence on August 28. The bail applications of two others arrested were also rejected by the court. The actor had applied for bail on the ground that only a small quantity of drugs were allegedly recovered from him, and thus he was entitled to bail.

However, Special Public Prosecutor Advait Sethna opposed the application, claiming that he had direct links with the two main accused in the case, from whom “commercial quantities” of the banned substance were recovered. Under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, offenses involving ‘commercial quantities’ (which vary for different categories) attract higher penalties.

The agency also cited WhatsApp conversations recovered from the actor’s phone, which said incriminating evidence was found in them. The NCB further said that the actor has links with the main accused Ajay Singh, who is a peddler.

Armaan Kohli had approached the special court on September 4 after his bail plea was rejected by the magistrate.

Kohli starred in the Salman Khan-starrer “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo”, among other Hindi films, and was one of the contestants on the TV reality show “Bigg Boss”.
