after a long delay, Ranveer singh Starrer sports biopic ’83’, finally released on 24th December. As expected, the film opened to a blockbuster response from audiences, who thronged the theaters to see Ranveer Singh in the role of 1983 Cricket World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev. Team. On its opening day, the film did well at premium multiplexes earning Rs 12 crore at the box office. According to the box office, 83 is expected to earn around 16 crores on the second day.
“83 (Hindi) has collected around 16 crores net in day two and its net of 28 crores on day two and 30-35% area growth on day second. Growth should have been more for the film. Because the opening day was short and more importantly it was a national holiday leading up to Christmas,” the box office said.
However, 83 is facing tough competition from Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna starrer ‘Pushpa’ which is creating a storm at the box office.
Helmed by Kabir Khan, 83 narrates Team India’s victory in the 1983 Cricket World Cup. The film features Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev and Deepika Padukone As his wife Romi Dev. The star cast of the movie 83 shot with the original World Cup when they re-enacted the winning scene. The film also has surprising elements for fans as it stars actresses. Neena Gupta And also former cricketer Kapil Dev.
Neena Gupta is playing the character of Kapil Dev’s mother Rajkumari Lal Nikhanj in ’83’. Ironically, the father of his daughter, Sir Viv Richards, was Kapil’s biggest player in the 1983 World Cup. Neena Gupta dated West Indies great Sir Viv, who was a member of the 1983 Caribbean team led by Sir Clive Lloyd, which was then considered unstoppable, after winning the first two World Cups.
Kapil Dev makes a cameo appearance as a member of the audience, who picks up the ball after the cracker of a shot by Ranveer Singh, who plays the cricket legend in the film. The character played by Kapil says: “Nice shot, Kapil!” Ranveer is garnering all round accolades for his performance in the sports drama.
