Tatkare, in-charge of women and child development department, announced that before the auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan, the Maharashtra government had already started distributing financial aid to eligible women

The Maharashtra government’s recently launched ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’ — under which eligible women will receive a monthly financial aid of Rs 1,500 — has sparked widespread discussions across the state.

Taking to microblogging site X, cabinet minister and in-charge of women and child development department Aditi Tatkare announced that before the auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan, the Maharashtra government had already started distributing financial aid to eligible women. The department worked round-the-clock to ensure that funds were transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible women, she added.

“To make the auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan sweeter, the Women and Child Development Department worked 24 hours to transfer the financial aid of the ‘Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana’. The distribution of funds started on the evening before Independence Day, and the department continued its work until 4 am on Independence Day. A total of 80 lakh women have received the monthly financial aid directly into their bank accounts,” Tatkare stated.

Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis also announced that funds have already begun to be deposited into the accounts of beneficiaries. In the first phase, one crore women across the state will benefit, with five lakh women from Nagpur district alone. Fadnavis assured that the scheme would continue to be implemented consistently. This announcement was made during the Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony at the Nagpur Divisional Commissioner’s Office where Fadnavis, who also serves as the guardian minister of Nagpur, presided over the event.

In his address, Fadnavis highlighted the significance of the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’, emphasising how it will provide crucial financial support to women across Maharashtra. He mentioned that the funds under this scheme have started being credited to the bank accounts of beneficiaries. In the first phase alone, one crore women are set to receive this aid, providing much-needed relief to many families across the state.

Fadnavis also reflected on the sacrifices made by the brave freedom fighters who fought for India’s independence. He noted that India has now emerged as the world’s fifth-largest economy, a journey he described as remarkable.

On Independence Day, Fadnavis paid tribute to the freedom fighters and expressed his gratitude for their sacrifices. He also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the theme of a ‘Developed India’ for this year’s Independence Day celebrations. Fadnavis also discussed the broader vision of development in Maharashtra, referencing significant investments of over Rs 50,000 crore and key projects like the Samruddhi Mahamarg. These projects, he said, are indicators of the state’s progressive trajectory.

In addition to the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’, Fadnavis touched upon other welfare initiatives taken by the state government. He mentioned that farmers in Maharashtra are receiving free electricity, girls are being provided with free education, and households are receiving up to 300 units of free electricity under the Solar Home Scheme. The deputy CM also revealed plans to elevate the Divisional Sports Complex to the status of a State Sports Complex and eventually transform it into a Sports University.

BJP MLA Ram Satpute shared screenshots of messages received from beneficiaries of the ‘Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana’, confirming that the funds have indeed been deposited into their accounts. In his post on ‘X,’ Satpute congratulated the Mahayuti government, Maharashtra CM, and both deputy CMs for successfully implementing this scheme, which will benefit many women.
