New Delhi: Due to the high level of inflation in the country, government employees are likely to get a hike in Dearness Allowance (DA), which will be disclosed later this month. According to media reports, with the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI) hovering around 127 points, the DA hike will be around 5%. DA is updated every year from January to July.

The DA for central government employees under the Seventh Pay Commission was increased to 34 per cent in January from the earlier 31 per cent. It has been updated as per AICPI. Central government employees got 3% hike in dearness allowance in October 2021. Then, starting from July 2021, the DA for central government employees was increased to 31%. From January 2022, salaried employees will get a 34 per cent increase in DA and DR, which is higher than the previous 31 per cent rate.

In January the AICPI was 125.1, but by February it had come down to 125. In March, however, the index rose one point to 126. The AICPI rose to 127.7 points in April. The data for May and June will be immediately scrutinized extensively. According to media reports, if the result is more than 127 in those months, then the DA can increase by 5 percent.

Last month, the basic ex-gratia amount was increased from 368 per cent to 381 per cent for certain types of government employees. According to an office memorandum of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, it is for those surviving CPF beneficiaries who have retired from employment between November 18, 1960 and December 31, 1985.

“Surviving CPF Beneficiaries who retired from service between the period 18.11.1960 and 31.12.1985, and for Group A, B, C and D the basic ex-gratia at the rate of Rs.3,000, Rs.1,000, Rs.750 and Rs.650 are entitled to. , respectively, w.e.f. June 4, 2013, O.M. No. 1/10/201 2-P&PW(E) dt. June 27, 2013, will now be entitled to increase from 368 per cent of the basic ex-gratia to 381 per cent of the principal ex-gratia with effect from 01.01.2022,” according to the May 11 Office Memorandum.

In light of the extraordinary situation arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Central Government has set aside three installments of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief for January 1, 2020, July 1, 2020 and January 1, 2021. The Central Government has said that as per reports, the arrears of General Dearness Allowance from January 2020 to June 2021 will not be released at this time.
