796 new COVID cases reported in India in last 24 hours, 19 deaths

India reported 796 new coronavirus infections, while active cases dropped to 10,889, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday. The death toll rose to 5,21,710 with 19 fresh deaths, data updated at 8 am.
Active cases comprise 0.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 98.76 per cent, the ministry said.
According to the ministry, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.20 per cent.
The number of people recovering from the disease increased to 4,25,04,329, while the death rate was recorded at 1.21 percent.
The cumulative doses administered so far in the country under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign have now reached 1,85,90,68,616.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20 lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on 23 August, 40 lakh on 5 September and 50 lakh on 16 September.
It crossed 60 lakhs on 28th September, 70 lakhs on 11th October, 80 lakhs on 29th October, 90 lakhs on 20th November and one crore on 19th December.
The country crossed the grim milestone of 20 million on 4th May and 30 million on 23rd June.
The ministry insisted that over 70 per cent of the deaths were due to co-morbidities.
“Our data is being collated with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website. The state wise distribution of data is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
