75 Lakh In Cash Found From Raj Cong Worker’s Car | Surat News – Times of India

SURAT: A static surveillance team (SST) of the district election office found cash worth Rs 74.82 lakh from a car in Jadakhadi of Mahidharpura area on Tuesday night. Three persons were present in the car when the team checked the car but one of them escaped during checking.
The SST checked the car based on specific information it had received. Udaysingh Ramkrusna Gurjar, a resident of Rajasthan, and Faiz Riyaz Saiyed, of Rander area, were detained by the SST for questioning and later they were handed over to the Income Tax department for further inquiry.
Sources said that Gurjar is a Congress worker from Rajasthan and he has been camping in the city to work for Congress. Gurjar told SST officials that he has no knowledge about the money. Saiyed was the driver of the car.
Both of them told SST officials that the cash was brought from Shree Ram Angadia but they failed to give the location. “It is being investigated from where the cash was collected and where it was supposed to be delivered,” said an official.
Source in the election office said that a couple of campaign pamphlets of Congress and passes of recent Rahul Gandhi’s rally were found in the car. Police and SST officials, however, refused to provide details about any other material recovered from the car.
Congress, on its part, said that the party has nothing to do with the cash recovered. “Government officials are trying to malign the image of Congress. Let the I-T investigate. It will clear things,” said Naishadh Desai, Congress spokesperson.
