KALYAN: A doctor in Kalyan has now been booked for running an illegal orphanage for allegedly buying a newborn baby from his parents in Dombivli two days ago.
A team of officials of the Department of Women and Child Protection with the help of local police rescued 71 minors in the age group of two to 16 years from Dr Ketan. Sonyorphanage centers in Kalyan and shifted them to juvenile centers in Bhiwandi, Dombivli and Ulhasnagar on Friday.
NS market place The police have booked Dr Soni and his associates under various sections of the Protection of Children Act. The team found that the minors were kept at the center in unhygienic conditions and the children were not being given proper food or clothes. The orphanage, built in a two-storey building, has only two bathrooms for 71 children. The team also found that the children had developed skin diseases, and some of them looked visibly weak due to improper diet.
Police said that preliminary investigation has revealed that Dr Soni along with his associates is running it. Nanddeep Foundation Since 2018, he was running a center for orphans in Tilak Chowk area of Kalyan through this NGO.
The incident came to light after a couple from Dombivali – Priya Ahire and Santosh Ahire Told a local social worker that Doctor Soni is not returning his 15-day-old child. The parents had allegedly sold the child to Dr. Soni for Rs 1 lakh. Social worker alerts District Child Protection Officer Ramakrishna Reddy Pallavi JadhavChild Protection Officer. Later the officials FIR Against the couple and Dr. Soni in Ramnagar police station.
Jadhav told TOI, “Investigating the case of a child being sold to Dr Soni by the parents, we came to know that he had kept the child in their orphanage. Further investigation revealed that Dr Soni had not taken any permission from the Child and Women Protection Department and was running the orphanage illegally. He only took permission from the charity commissioner to run an NGO.
The officials found that Dr Soni would keep the underprivileged children in the orphanage without following due process.
