700 Liquor Boxes With Arunachal Pradesh Stickers Seized In Ranchi | Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi: The excise department on Wednesday seized 700 boxes of liquor bearing stickers of Arunachal Pradesh during a raid at a house located at Gosai Tola under Ratu police station limits of Ranchi district. The house owner, Sunil Oraon, is absconding.
Excise department official Pradeep Sharma said genuineness of the stickers and also the suitability of the seized liquor for consumption would be verified. “Liquor brands — Royal Players and Goa King — found in the boxes are available in Arunachal Pradesh at a low price. There is a strong possibility that the miscreants would have transferred the contents of the bottles seized into bottles of premium brands like Royal Stag and 100 Pipers for selling them in local markets, particularly in rural areas of Ranchi,” he added.
The illegal sale of liquor in open market affects the customers’ turnover at government-approved shops, which in turn decreases the state’s revenue. Each box of liquor could be sold at prices between Rs 3,000 and Rs 3,500. Hence, the total worth of the seizure is between Rs 21 lakh and Rs 24 lakh, sources said.
Illegal sale of cheap liquor in bottles of costly brand is widespread in the state with officials saying it has taken the form of a cottage industry. The miscreants get caps and labels of big brands from Kolkata and bottles from the scrap dealers.
The excise department has planned special drive to curb such activities.
Subodh Jaiswal of Jharkhand Sarab Vikreta Sangh said refilling cheap liquor in bottles of big brands is common in the state.
