6 Teams To Take Part In 1st Rotary Inter Zonal Women’s Handball Tournament | Kanpur News – Times of India

Kanpur: As many as six teams will participate in First Rotary Inter Zonal Women’s Handball Tournament, being organized by Rotary District Sports Committee and district Handball Association at Central School ground Cantonment here on September 10 and 11.
The six teams are winner and runners up of their three respective zones including, Kanpur, Agra and Bareilly. The six teams have been named as Ganga, Veerangana, Taj, Lock City, Jhuka City and Tigress, according to Rtn Nitya Chawala. Addressing the media person she said that the rotary had taken this event for three years with an aim to produce at least one national level player in this game.
After the tournament as many as 15 players would be selected for coaching camp and toppers among them would get financial help in the shape of education help for one year.
The event had been chalked out in three phases. In the first phase, district level tournament was held, in the second phase zonal tournament was organized and the third phase would commence from September 10, she said.
Neetu David, educationalist and social worker, will be the chief guest of the inaugural function. Rita Dey, former International cricketer and Chairperson BCCI women selection committee, will be the special guest.
The objective of the event was to encourage the girls towards sports. The event is being organized Ajay Shankar Dixit, chairman, Sports Promotion Committee, Lalit Vohra and Rajat Dixit, joint secretary, UP Handball Association.
