Five people from Maharashtra and their driver were killed when a car fell into a ravine in North Sikkim. The police gave this information on Sunday. The incident took place around 8 pm on Saturday at Kedung Bhir, 13 km from the popular tourist destination Lachung, they said.
Police said that the family, who came to Sikkim on leave, was going from the capital Gangtok to Lachung, when the accident happened. He said that the vehicle slipped off the road and fell into the ravine hundreds of feet below.
The deceased have been identified as Suresh Punamiya, Tural Punamiya, Hiral Punamiya, Devanshi Punamiya and Jayan Parimar and their driver Somi Vishwakarma, police said. The bodies were recovered by the police on Sunday with the help of the army and local people, he said.
Police said that investigation has been started.
