Dakshineswar Kali Temple
The temple of Goddess Kali, built in 1847 by Rani Rashmoni, a landlord and philanthropist, is an important cultural and religious center of Kolkata. Maa Bhavatarini, an incarnation of Maa Kali, is worshiped in the temple. Spread over 25 acres, this temple is visited by thousands of devotees from all over the country every day. This temple is located in Dakshineswar and hence it is known as Dakshineswar Kali Temple.
Howrah Bridge
This marvel of the British era has become synonymous with the identity of Kolkata. Situated in the middle of the city, this bridge has been built over the Hooghly River. The 705-metre-long bridge is a masterpiece of 20th century engineering and connects Kolkata and Howrah. The bridge has been named Rabindra Setu after the great poet Rabindranath Tagore. It is the sixth longest cantilever bridge in the world.
Indian Museum
It is the largest and oldest museum in the country, built in 1814. The founder of the Indian Museum was Dr. Nathaniel Wallich. It is claimed that it is the 9th oldest museum in the world. It was opened to the public in 1878. The museum is home to various antiquities, jewellery, fossils and skeletons. Many rare and unique specimens are also preserved in the museum. The museum houses a vast collection of archaeological findings and has received international acclaim due to its rare art collection.
