5 killed by drinking contaminated water in Karnataka's Raichur, orders for investigation

Hubli, Karnataka:

In view of the recent deaths due to contaminated water in Raichur, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said investigation is on and criminal cases will be registered if necessary.

Speaking to media persons in Hubballi on Saturday, Mr Bommai said, “Investigation into the deaths due to consumption of contaminated water in Raichur is on. Criminal cases will be registered if necessary.”

Mr Bommai said that already two officials have been suspended in the case and water samples of all the wards are being tested.

In Karnataka’s Raichur, the death toll due to drinking contaminated water has risen to five.

Meanwhile, the CM has ordered a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the victims.

He has also asked the Chief Engineer of Karnataka Water Supply and Sewerage Board to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
