Andhra Pradesh Police has busted an interstate gang involved in stealing computer chips and equipment from college labs and also arrested five people in connection with the case.

With the arrest of five people, Andhra Pradesh Police has busted an interstate gang involved in stealing computer chips from college labs mainly in Chittoor district. Police have also recovered 1,140 RAMs, 95 processors, a car and Rs 1.5 lakh from the accused’s possession.

Explaining about the gang, SP Rishant Reddy said the gang has been targeting engineering and degree colleges in the district and in Tamilnadu and Karnataka for stealing computer chipsets.

”In the open market, there is a good demand for computer tools such as RAM and processors. In 2021, the gang was involved in computer equipment theft and they targeted 50 colleges in the district, said SP.

The stolen RAM, processor, monitor and CPU were allegedly sold at the Burma market in Chennai.

Probe revealed that the gang was involved in 28 cases of computer accessories theft in the district.

FIVE ARRESTED

The accused, who have been identified as Kaniyappan Murali, Pungavanam Shekhar from Tamil Nadu, Pasalavenkatereddy, Kandulavenkatty and Pulleri Gopi from Kadapa used to target major colleges and educational institutes to steal computer chips from the college labs.
