Human Acts by Han Congo
The novel is based on the 1980 massacre of pro-democracy agitators and student protesters in the city of Gwangju. Kang takes its readers on a difficult journey through the agony of its characters after the brutal murders of protesters. The assassination was ordered by the then President of South Korea, Chun Doo-hwan. He passed away earlier this week. Human Acts is translated from Korean by Deborah Smith.
