Tokyo: Only six officials of the Indian contingent are allowed to attend the opening ceremony of Tokyo Paralympics on Tuesday, Mission Chief Gursharan Singh Said on Sunday.
Thus India’s opening ceremony will have 11 members, the remaining five being athletes.

There is no limit to the number of athletes for the opening ceremony but only seven Indian participants have reached Tokyo so far.
Of those seven, two table tennis players – Sonal Patel and Bhavina Patel – are due to compete on Wednesday and will not participate in the ceremony during which Japanese Emperor Naruhito will announce the opening of the Games.

“Only six officials are allowed for the opening ceremony, while there is no limit on the number of athletes,” said Chef de Mission Singh, who is also the general secretary. Paralympic Committee of India, told PTI.
“There is a competition between two table tennis players on the next day, that is, Wednesday, so they are not participating in the opening ceremony.”

The same rule of wearing the caps of six officials during the opening ceremony was followed during the Tokyo Olympics which ended on 8 August.
The five athletes participating in the opening ceremony are flag bearer Mariyappan Thangavelu, discus thrower Vinod Kumar, javelin thrower Tek Chand and powerlifter Jaideep. Sakina Khatun.
Four of the six officers attending the opening ceremony have been decided, including the Chef de Mission, the Deputy Chef de Mission. Arhaan Bagati, Chief Liaison Officer for COVID-19 VK Dabas and Mariyappan’s coach and Para Athletics chairperson Satyanarayana.
A third batch of Indian athletes is leaving on Monday, but those parts of it will have to serve a quarantine period before they are allowed to train.
India is being represented by the biggest ever 54 athletes and the country is looking forward to its best medal tally this time.
In view of the rising COVID-19 cases in Tokyo, fans have been banned from the Paralympics as in the previous Olympic Games.
