Jammu, March 27

The pilgrimage to the Hindu shrine of Amarnath cave in Kashmir will begin from June 30 this year. This will be after a gap of two years when the pilgrimage will be performed by lakhs of devotees as it was canceled due to the pandemic.

In this regard, a meeting of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board was held today in which it was decided that the 43-day Yatra will start from June 30.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, who presided over the meeting, said, “The 43-day holy pilgrimage will begin on June 30 with all COVID protocols and will end as per tradition on the day of Raksha Bandhan. On the upcoming visit also, we discussed various issues in depth.

In 2019 too, the pilgrimage was canceled midway after the central government decided to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcate it into two union territories. Thousands of pilgrims performing the pilgrimage were present in Kashmir at that time and were asked to leave the valley immediately.

The administration has already started making arrangements for one of the biggest pilgrimages in the country. Recently, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr. Raghav Langar reviewed the arrangements for the yatra. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and intelligence agencies are also ready for the peaceful conduct of the pilgrimage.

Instructions have already been given to start the work of cleaning and face lifting of Yatri Niwas, Toilet Complex and Langar Shed at Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu.
