It is said that love can drive even the most sensible person mad, blinding them from seeing reality. This has been proved yet again by a recent incident from China. A woman’s life was profoundly affected by the consequences of love. People often sacrifice their family and friends for love, but perhaps you’ve rarely heard of someone becoming a robber for love. Let’s tell you the story of a woman that will leave you stunned.

According to reports, a 40-year-old woman fell in love with a scammer and was cheated, which caused her a financial loss of around Rs 11 lakh. Not only this, she ended up assisting him in defrauding others. The incident occurred in Shanghai, where a woman surnamed Hu met a man named Chen on an online dating platform in May last year. Chen convinced Hu that he was a decent person and claimed to have an investment account with high returns. He impressed her so much that she invested a significant amount in this account at his insistence. When Hu tried to withdraw her money, she discovered she had been conned. Later when she confronted Chen, he claimed he was caught up in a scam in Northern Myanmar and needed to fulfil a quota before he could come back to China.

Hu was so deeply in love with Chen that even after discovering her lover was a fraud, she remained by his side. Not only that, she assisted him in committing robberies to meet his quota. Because the transactions were conducted through her account, police traced her involvement in the fraud case. Chen assured her that as long as she didn’t take a commission and acted as a victim, she would be safe.

In September last year, police arrested Hu and she confessed the entire ordeal to the authorities. Since she had fallen victim to the scam, she was given only a two-and-a-half-year sentence and asked to pay a fine.
