40 crore Indians still in the grip of corona, two-thirds have Kovid antibodies: ICMR survey

New Delhi: According to the national sero-survey, around 40 crore Indians are still vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus.

According to the survey, seroprevalence has been found in 67.6 percent of the people in the country i.e. antibodies have been found in two-thirds of the people.

The survey was conducted on 28,975 people from 70 districts across 21 states. 10 villages or wards from each district were part of this survey.

Giving information in this regard, Dr Balram Bhargava, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that the latest national sero-survey covers children in the age group of six to 17 years.

He said that children can withstand the infection better than the elderly.

“The overall seroprevalence in the entire population is 67.6 percent. Among those in the age group of 6-9 years it was 57.2 percent. In 10-17 years it was 61.6%. In 18-44 years it was 66.7%. At 45-60 years , it was 77.6%,” he said.

“Seroprevalence was 62.3 per cent in people who have not received any vaccine against the virus, while it was 81 per cent in those with a single dose of the jab. Among those who received both the doses, it was 89.8 per cent,” ANI quoted Dr Bhargava as saying.

Around 85 per cent of healthcare workers have contracted COVID-19. In view of the same, the Union Health Ministry has recommended strict adherence to the appropriate behavior of Kovid and to avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary.
