4 killed, 24 injured as truck hits Goa-bound stationery bus in UP’s Barabanki | Lucknow News – Times of India

LUCKNOW: At least four Nepalese passengers were killed and 24 others sustained injuries after a speeding truck rammed into a stationary bus in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district in the early hours of Saturday.
According to police, the sleeper bus, carrying 60 Nepalese migrant labourers, was on its way to Goa when one of its tyres got punctured in Mahangupur village under Ramnagar police station area.
The driver of the bus had parked the vehicle on the roadside and was in the middle of changing the tyre when a speeding truck hit the vehicle from behind.
Additional superintendent of police, Barabanki, Purnendu Singh said that of the 60 passengers, the four who died on the spot were identified as Prem Tharu, Sheetal Tharu, Chakra Bahadur and identity of one could not be ascertained.
The injured were admitted to the Barabanki district hospital for treatment where the doctors sent six of the injured to Lucknow’s KGMU Trauma Center.
“The remaining passengers are safe and we are in the process of sending them back to Nepal,” said Singh.
The bodies of those who died have been sent for post-mortem and further investigation into the matter is under way, he added.
