3 Men Held in Maharashtra’s Palghar for Practising ‘Witchcraft’

During investigation, the police learned that the accused had demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from a person from Valsad in neighboring Gujarat and promised to give him Rs 5 lakh in return with the help of his “supernatural power”.

Police have arrested three people from Maharashtra’s Palghar district for allegedly practicing ‘witchcraft’ and extorting money from a person by promising to double the money. An official gave this information on Sunday.

District Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil said that based on a tip-off, the police intercepted a car and a motorcycle in Jawahar area on Friday and arrested the three accused.

The officer said that during the investigation, the police found that the accused had demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from a person from Valsad in neighboring Gujarat and promised him Rs 5 lakh in return with the help of his “supernatural power”.

He said the police have recovered some fake currency, a ‘trishul’ (trident) and other material used in worship from their possession.

The three accused, aged 27, 46 and 55, were arrested and booked under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Maharashtra Prevention and Control of Human Sacrifice and other inhuman, evil and Aghori practices and Black Magic Act, he said.
