In the early hours of Wednesday, three bombs were hurled at BJP MP Arjun Singh’s house near Kolkata despite the presence of security forces. While there were no casualties, the explosion left marks on the iron gate of the house. The MLA was not present at his house at the time of the incident. However, his family was inside.
The incident took place at around 6.30 am when three men on a bike allegedly hurled bombs at Singh’s resident at Jagatdal in Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district. Singh, who is in Delhi, told News18“A month ago, I had given a letter to the Governor mentioning that I suspected an attack on me. I had come to Delhi for election related work as I have been assigned the responsibility of Bhawanipur by-election. I am returning now. I’ll see what can be done.”
Police has reached the spot and CCTV footage is being scanned to identify the culprits and to ascertain the motive behind the attack.
Meanwhile, the BJP has taken to Twitter to target the Mamata Banerjee government over the incident. “If the houses of MPs and MLAs are not safe, then one can understand the condition of the common man in Bengal. This incident shows that goondaraj BJP’s Bengal unit vice-president Ritesh Tiwari said, Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee continues in the government.
Bengal CM’s friend-turned-enemy Suvendu Adhikari tweeted, “Bombing at MP @ArjunSinghWB’s residence confirms our allegation that criminals have been assured of impunity by their bosses within the WB administration. Otherwise they would not dare to commit such an act. Though @ArjunsinghWB is made of steel, don’t be afraid of it.”
