2nd ODI: Rohit Sharma’s Heroics in Vain as Mehidy Hasan Miraz Guides Bangladesh to Series Win

Mehidy Hasan Miraj produced an all-round performance with both bat and ball to defeat Bangladesh India Won the second ODI by five runs on Wednesday to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Miraj continued his fine form with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 100 as Bangladesh put up a challenging 271/7 on the scoreboard. The 25-year-old also impressed with the ball, taking two wickets as India fell five runs short.

Captain Rohit Sharma showed his bravery to bat with an injured thumb to save India, but it was not enough in the end. Rohit played an unbeaten 58 off 28 balls but failed to hit the last ball for a six.

The Indian captain came out to bat at number 9 to save his team and shared a 39-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Mohammad Siraj. India scored 20 runs in the final over courtesy of Rohit’s attack on Mahmudullah. In the final over, Mustafizur Rahman came up with a tough challenge from Rohit to help Bangladesh win the series.

India once again failed to take advantage of Bangladesh’s early batting collapse as Mehidy bettered his match-winning innings from the previous match to score a century on Wednesday. In the end, Rohit tried his best but it was not enough for the Men in Blue to cross the line. He hit five sixes and three fours in his innings of 51 runs.

Earlier, the host captain of Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first, but Mohammad Siraj dismissed both the openers early with the new ball. Anamul Haque (11) and Liton Das (7) had no answer to Siraj’s early onslaught with the ball. Najmul Hossain Shanto showed some composure and resilience during his 21-run knock, but Umran Malik’s 151 kmph thunderbolt was too much for him to handle. Umran hit the woods with a sharp delivery in a flash of seconds. The experienced duo of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim fell prey to Washington Sundar who was once again disciplined with his line and length.

However, the duo took their time to settle and as they started slow but were steady to revive the Bangladesh innings. He hit back at the Indian bowlers after scoring a half-century. Mahmudullah was dismissed by a fiery Umran for 77, but only helped Mehdi channel his best version under pressure.

Sundar took three wickets for India, while pacers Siraj and Umran took two wickets each.
