On the occasion of International Women’s Day, President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday presented the Nari Shakti Puraskar for 2020-21 to 29 women who have made outstanding contribution to the empowerment of women. These include 14 awards for 2020 and 14 for 2021. This award is given by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to those who have done remarkable work towards the development of women.

In continuation of the ‘Azadi Ke Amrit Mahotsav’, the week-long celebrations of International Women’s Day began on March 1, 2022 in New Delhi. The function ended with the distribution of Nari Shakti Puraskar. The award was given for 2020-21. The 2020 award ceremony was postponed due to the Corona crisis.

Women of many fields got awards
The Nari Shakti Puraskar winners for the year 2020 include women from different walks of life. For example, entrepreneurship, agriculture, innovation, social work, art, handicrafts, STEMM and wildlife conservation. Nari Shakti Puraskar winners for the year 2021 include women from the fields of Linguistics, Entrepreneurship, Agriculture, Social Work, Art, Handcrafts, Merchant Navy, STEMM, Education, Literature, Divyangjan Rights etc.

These women from 14 states honored
Merchant Navy captain Radhika Menon, social entrepreneur Anita Gupta, organic farming tribal activist Ushaben Dineshbhai Vasava, innovation renown Nasira Akhtar, Intel India chief Nivruti Rai, Kathak dancer Sayli Nandkishore Agwane with Down syndrome Vanitha Jagdev Borade, the first woman to save snakes, and mathematician Neena Gupta.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has bowed to women power on International Women’s Day. He said that the central government would continue to focus on women empowerment through its various schemes with special emphasis on respect and opportunities.
