26-year-old man arrested in Patna for running anti-India WhatsApp group

A 26-year-old man was arrested in Patna on Friday for allegedly propagating “anti-India” views through a WhatsApp group, police said. He said that Marguv Ahmed Danish (26) alias Tahir, a resident of Phulwari Sharif, was also found to have links with the Pakistan-based extremist group Tehreek-e-Labbaik.

“Danish was running a WhatsApp group named ‘Gazwa-e-Hind’, through which he propagated anti-India views. There were many foreign nationals including people from Pakistan and Bangladesh in that group. His phone has been confiscated. And the number is being traced,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manavjit Singh Dhillon told PTI. He added, “Investigation also revealed that Danish was associated with Tehreek-e-Labbaik. He was also in regular contact with Faizan, a Pakistani national. Investigators have found that messages insulting the national flag and emblem were being shared in the group.

Dhillon said Danish was the group’s administrator and was also in touch with several other foreign groups. They have been arrested under sections of the IPC and the IT Act, with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) also joining the probe, the official said. Meanwhile, the police raided the premises associated with the Social Democratic Party. India (SDPI) in Patna and Motihari districts, officials said.

The raids were conducted as a part of the investigation into the arrest of two PFI members for their alleged involvement in anti-India activities. Mohammad Jallauddin and Athar Pravez, a retired policeman from Jharkhand, were arrested from Phulwari Sharif area here on Wednesday. Police said that several incriminating documents have been recovered from them.

SDPI is the political group of PFI.
