The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is preparing to shift around 25 gangsters lodged in jails of Delhi, Punjab and Haryana to other jails. NIA has approached the Ministry of Home Affairs to shift these gangsters. NIA alleges that all these gangsters are running syndicates sitting in jails. Sidhu Musewala’s accused gangster Lawrence’s name is also in this list.
The NIA, in a letter to the Home Ministry earlier, requested the transfer of 25 gangsters from north Indian jails to the southern states. The NIA has initially proposed sending the gangsters to South India. But for this, it may take time to fulfill the rules by contacting the state governments.
As an alternative, the NIA is also considering the option of shifting the gangsters to the Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam. Waris Punjab De’s Mukhi Amritpal Singh and his companions are also lodged in this jail.
Andaman Nicobar best option
NIA wants to shift the gangsters to Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is a Union Territory. Due to which the process of shifting here is easy and time will also be less. NIA is also getting legal inputs in this matter.
NIA forms joint team with Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana police
Recently, NIA has formed a joint team with Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana Police. Whose motive is to stop the syndicate formed by the gangsters. The NIA registered two FIRs against the gangsters in August last and also filed the charge sheet in the court. It alleged conspiracy by Indian and international crime syndicates to raise funds, recruit youth for terrorist attacks and commit sensational crimes.
