THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After reporting less than 2,000 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last two days, Kerala on Tuesday recorded 2,474 new infections, taking the caseload so far to 52,27,403.
An official press release said that 244 deaths have also been reported in the state, taking the death toll so far to 47,066.
Of the 244 deaths, 38 were registered in the last few days and 206 were designated as Covid-19 deaths after receiving an appeal based on the Centre’s new guidelines and the Supreme Court’s directions.
With 3,052 more people recovering from the virus since Monday, the total recoveries reached 51,71,080 and active cases came down to 20,400, the release said.
In the last 24 hours, 60,597 samples were tested.
Among 14 districts, Ernakulam reported 419 fresh cases, followed by Thiruvananthapuram (405) and Kozhikode (273).
Of the new cases, 27 were health workers, 24 were from outside the state and 2,302 were infected, the sources of which were not clear in 121.
At present, 1,16,378 people are under observation in various districts, of which 1,12,641 are in home or institutional quarantine and 3,737 in hospitals, the release said.
