SAD’s ally in Punjab BSP on Sunday announced its state unit chief Jasvir Singh Garhi as its candidate for the 2022 state elections from the Phagwara (reserved) assembly seat. The announcement was made by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national coordinator Akash Anand, who is also the nephew of party supremo Mayawati, at a rally here.
The SAD and the BSP had formed an alliance in June for the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. As per the seat-sharing arrangement between the parties, the Mayawati-led BSP will contest 20 of the 117 assembly seats, while the rest will be contested by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
Senior BSP leadership including SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, several Akali MLAs and leaders, party’s national vice president Anand Kumar were present on the occasion. Addressing the SAD-BSP rally, Badal said that a storm has started against the Congress government in Punjab.
He also said that the SAD-BSP alliance has made Congress, BJP and AAP restless and the next government will be of SAD-BSP alliance. Badal talked about his party’s 13-point program in which he has given free electricity up to 400 units per month for all households, reduction in diesel price by Rs 10 per liter for agriculture sector and for Punjabi youth in private sector. Made election promises including 75 percent reservation. .
Claiming that the SAD-BSP alliance would last for 25-40 years or more, he said the SAD broke ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as it stabbed Punjabis and farmers in the back. He cautioned voters against cheating on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal and also attacked Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
Meanwhile, all the leaders present at the rally criticized the use of force by Haryana Police against farmers in Karnal on Saturday. He also delayed reaching the rally venue, respecting the two-hour blockade called by the farmers of Punjab to protest the lathi charge against the farmers of Haryana.
