Colombia beat Peru 3-2 in a third-place match at the Copa America on Friday when striker Luis Diaz scored a pair of goals, one of them assisted by goalkeeper Camilo Vargas.

The final of the tournament will be played between defending champions Brazil and Argentina at the Maracan Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night.

Peru opened the scoring in the 28th minute with Yoshimar Yotun at the Mane Garrincha Stadium in Brasilia, with an assist from Christian Cueva that allowed them to beat Colombia’s Vargas with a soft lob.

Colombia leveled in the 49th minute after a free kick from Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, which passed between the Peruvian wall and past goalkeeper Pedro Gallis.

Colombia took the first lead in the 66th minute, when Vargas kicked the ball over opposite defenders and found Diaz face to face with Peru’s Galilee. The striker calmly struck with his right foot to make it 2-1.

Italian-Peruvian striker Gianluca Lapadula equalized again in the 82nd minute with a header from a corner.

Diaz again scored in extra time with a shot from outside the box. The ball deflected on a Peruvian defender and struck Gallis.
