1983 World Cup: Kapil Dev reveals that he carried a bottle of champagne in his handbag throughout the tournament

India’s first World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev relived the moment when his team took the last wicket of Jeff Dujon in the 1983 final vs West Indies and won the game by 43 runs at Lord’s on June 25.

“My favorite memory was when Jeff Doojan got out and he fell to the ground, Jimmy Amarnath tried to take the stumps but failed. I think it was the best moment for me as he was the final wicket of the 1983 World Cup was.” Kapil Dev told Rajdeep Sardesai on India Today.

Kapil Dev also revealed his favorite memory from the final and how he carried a bottle of champagne in his handbag throughout the tournament in England.

Kapil said, “During the 1983 World Cup, I had a bottle of champagne in my handbag. I decided to open the bottle after the final, regardless of the result of the final, that was my thought.”
