180 residents evacuated as Mount Bulluson rumbles – Vigor Times – The Henry Club

LEGAZPI CITY – Some 50 families, or 180 individuals, were evacuated after the local government of Juban, Sorsogon, ordered their forcible evacuation following the fierce eruption of Mount Bulusan on Sunday.

Isha Mariano, information officer of the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC), said, “About 50 families/180 persons have been evacuated from Juban Po.” INQUIRER.net.

Arvi Lodronio, head of Juban’s Office of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, said the evacuated people were living within 4-6 kilometers of the volcano in Barangay Puting Sapa.

The families were taken to the Zuban Evacuation Center in Barangay Tugan.

Lodronio said about 1,656 people were displaced by the ashes in Puting Sapa, Aog, Bacolod, Buraburan, Kalmayon, Katanusan and Guryan villages.

On Sunday night, Sorsogon governor and senator-elect Chiz Escudero led the distribution of food packs and other relief items.

Dr. Edric Vargas, in-charge of the health unit of the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said evacuees also needed toiletries, face masks, alcohol, psychosocial first aid and basic medicines for cough, high blood pressure, diabetes and. Other health concerns.

Vargas said affected residents have been advised to stay indoors and wear face masks to avoid respiratory problems.

At around 10:37 a.m. on Sunday, a brown plume of steam erupted from the volcano that rose nearly a kilometer and scattered wet ash westward.

In its 8 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolx) said a thin, fine ash was observed in the northwestern region of the villages of Zuban and Barangay Bolos in the city of Erosin.

The sound of thunder and the smell of sulfur were also observed by residents in the villages of Aog, Guruyan and Katanusan.

Phivolcs chief Renato Solidum said steam was observed not only in the summit crater but also at the northwestern summit vent.

“Following the eruption, a fall was observed from the crater and, for the first time this year, from the northwestern summit vent,” Phivolks’ bulletin said.
