161 ohmron cases; Vaccines can be ‘tweaked’ for new variants, says AIIMS chief key points

New Delhi: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that 161 omicron cases have been detected in India and the government has made arrangements for buffer stock of critical medicines to address the shortage of essential medicines.

Addressing the Rajya Sabha, Mansukh Mandaviya said that the country’s vaccine manufacturing capacity will be increased to 45 crore doses per month in the next two months.

“As of now, there are 161 omicron cases in India… We are monitoring the situation daily with experts. With our experience during the first and second waves, to make sure that we don’t have problems when the variant spreads. We have arranged a buffer stock of vital medicines,” Mandaviya said.

Omicron cases have been detected in 11 states and union territories. Maharashtra has reported the highest number of omicron cases, followed by Delhi.

, In Rajya Sabha, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that buffer stocks of medicine and oxygen have been prepared and 48,000 ventilators have been distributed to the states to mitigate any crisis.

, The Health Minister said that 88 percent of the population has been given the first dose of Kovid-19 vaccine and 58 percent has been given the second dose. He said that the Center is in constant touch with the states and experts to understand the Omron version.

, AIIMS Delhi Director Dr Randeep Guleria said that the COVID-19 vaccines can be “tweaked” to provide protection against new forms of the virus. PTI quoted Dr Randeep Guleria as saying, “Although there is this new variant of COVID-19, the silver lining is that it is a mild disease and as far as the vaccine is concerned, We should have security.”

, Speaking at an event in Maharashtra, Dr Guleria said that Omicron protects against humoral immunity. “According to preliminary reports from South Africa, there is a high risk of infection in persons already infected with a different breed,” he said.

, Delhi Chief Minister addressing a press conference Arvind Kejriwal urged the Center To allow the administration of booster shots. There have been 24 cases of the Omron variant in Delhi.

, Arvind Kejriwal also said that all samples that test positive for Kovid-19 will be sent for genome sequencing in Delhi.

, The Delhi CM also said that the government has made adequate arrangements for hospital beds, oxygen and medicines. Kejriwal said, “30,000 Kovid beds are ready in Delhi. 6,800 additional ICU beds will also be ready very soon.”

, Five more cases of Omicron type were found in Karnataka, taking the total number to 19. The cases were reported in Dharwad, Bhadravati in Shivamogga district, Udupi and Mangaluru.
